What makes a great suggestion
- Describe the job, not just the name. “A generator that makes short two-syllable app names” is far more useful than “a name tool.”
- Tell me the inputs and outputs. What would you type in, and what would you expect to get back? This is the single most helpful thing you can include.
- Mention who it’s for. Students, streamers, small businesses — knowing the audience changes how a tool should be designed.
- Say what you do today. If you currently solve this with a spreadsheet formula, a clunky site, or by hand, that tells me exactly what the tool has to beat.
- Include an example. One sample input and the answer you’d want back removes almost all ambiguity.
An example of a strong suggestion
To show the difference, here are the same idea described two ways:

The second version names the audience, the inputs, the output, and the reason — which is enough to start building from immediately.
What tends to get built
Ideas that fit the site’s constraints move fastest. In practice that means tools which:
- Run entirely in your browser. If it needs no server, no account and no external data, it can be built and shipped quickly — and it keeps your input private by design.
- Give a precise answer. Calculators with a correct, checkable result are a natural fit.
- Solve a recurring annoyance. Something you need monthly beats something you need once.
- Are hard to find for free. If every existing version is behind a signup wall, that’s a strong signal.
Ideas needing live external data — real-time username availability, current exchange rates, live stock prices — are much harder, since they require paid APIs and a server. They’re not impossible, just slower. And a fair warning: AddonSpot is a one-person project built alongside university coursework, so good ideas sometimes wait longer than they deserve.
