A full Amazon product URL can run past 200 characters: the product title spelled out in full, then ref= codes, session identifiers, keyword strings, and tracking parameters describing how you got there.
None of it is the product. Every Amazon item has an ASIN — a ten-character identifier — and amazon.com/dp/ASIN is the canonical short form Amazon itself recognizes. Everything else is context about your visit, not the item.
The length has real costs.
